Best Whiskey for a Hot Toddy
Sometimes a cold winter evening calls for a particularly soothing cocktail. That’s when we recommend a delicious twist on the classic Hot Toddy to create the timeless combination of lemon, cinnamon, a little hot water, and a splash of Tennessee Whiskey.
For us, Old No. 7 is the best whiskey for a Hot Toddy. If you want an even easier version of this fairly simple recipe, just replace the Old No. 7 and honey with some Jack Daniel's Tennessee Honey. Nothing to it.
WHY IS IT CALLED A HOT TODDY?
The Hot Toddy, or as the Irish call it, a hot whiskey, is a cocktail with an intriguing name and an even more intriguing history. There are a few origins for this timeless cocktail, but we’ll focus on two popular stories. One story recounts a concoction made by a doctor, aptly named Robert Bentley Todd, that was made to cure colds, which explains why the Tennessee Toddy is perfectly suited for a cold winter’s night.
The other story originates from Asia where a traditional alcoholic drink, known by some familiar sounding names such as tadi and tari, was said to be popular with Europeans who introduced it back to their home countries.
