Our Future
Our Future
When Jack Daniel first learned the art of distilling whiskey from Nearest Green, he also learned the importance of doing things the right way - even if it takes a little more effort and time. These days, we carry this sentiment forward in our efforts to run our Distillery with “zero-waste to landfill” and to responsibly steward everything from the water that makes our whiskey to the wood that makes our barrels.
Take a closer look and discover what we are doing to protect the natural resources we use to make Jack Daniel's.

43,000 acres of Tennessee farmland will benefit from natural commercial fertilizer produced through the anaerobic digestion system.

On an ever evolving sustainability journey, the Jack Daniel's Distillery and 3 Rivers Energy Partners partnered in 2023 on an anaerobic digester project located along Good Branch Road in Moore County. The facility provides the Distillery with renewable energy to run its operations and local farmers with a source of natural fertilizer to grow the corn needed to craft our whiskey.

There’s simply no replacing the sugar maple trees we use to charcoal mellow and the white oak trees used to make barrels — and we’re making sure we’ll never have to. We’re proud participants of Dendrifund's signature program, The White Oak Initiative and proud partners with the University of Tennessee on a long-term Tree Improvement Program.

The magic of Jack Daniel’s starts with the iron-free water from our Cave Spring Hollow and we think that's something worth protecting. We protect hundreds of acres around the Cave Spring and are saving approximately 8 million gallons of water per year by pumping water from our reverse osmosis system in our fire loop system.

The sugar maple charcoal used in our meticulous filtering process for Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey is also recycled as smoking pellets for barbecues. These pellets infuse your grilled meats and vegetables with the same rich, smoky flavor that defines our whiskey, enhancing your backyard cookouts with a distinctive and robust taste.

The used barrels from our whiskey aging process are sold to other beverage alcohol manufacturers who use them to impart unique flavors to their own spirits. Additionally, these barrels find new life as rustic furniture, adding a touch of heritage and character to homes and establishments around the world.

Our commitment to making great whiskey is only matched by our dedication to preserving the world we call home. The Jack Daniel Distillery was one of our first production operations to become “zero waste to landfill,” sending less than 1% of waste to landfill. We send 99% of the materials used in our Distillery to be reused or recycled and are constantly working toward new zero-waste goals.
